History Is Just Around the Corner... The Granger Homestead & Carriage Museum represents over 180 years of history. We would like to share our interpretation of that history with you and your students. Programs & Special Events Homestead Days, Canandaigua in the 19th Century. Wednesday June
4 & Thursday June 5, 2008. Developed to complement the second grade Social Studies curriculum, Homestead Days features hands-on activities for your students. They'll meet a spinner and a period musician, churn their own butter, make hand dipped candles, and participate in a bucket brigade with local firefighters. This program is available only through advance registration with the Education Director. Summer Camp for Kids. The weeks of Monday - Friday, July 21st thru
25th and August 4th thru 8th, 2008 have been set aside for fun and history at the Granger Homestead. The camp program runs Monday through Friday, 9:00am
- 12 noon. Campers enjoy a tour of the hidden areas of the Homestead and participate in period crafts and games. Parents and small siblings are invited to attend a picnic on the final day, along with a horse drawn carriage ride. $70.00 members, $80.00 non-members, $5.00 discount for second child/same family. Advance registration required. Annual Civil War Encampment. Friday September 26th &
Saturday September 27th, 2008. Experience camp life on the grounds where regiments actually drilled. Friday is reserved for school groups, with Saturday morning programs for home schoolers with advance registration, and 10:00am-4:00pm for the general public. Class reservations, contact the Education Director. Annual Festival of Trees. November 7- 30, 2008. Over one hundred thematic trees,
wreaths and other holiday decorations displayed indoors throughout the first floor of the Mansion. Participate in this holiday event by providing a tree or other decoration created by your class or troop. Bring your class or troop for a tour of the Festival! Please call for information, tour reservations and admission charges. The Night Before Christmas. Come to the Homestead and learn about holiday celebrations in the early days of Canandaigua, and the Granger family. Watch a puppet show of Clement Moore's "The Night Before Christmas," followed by a scavenger hunt through the rooms of the Homestead. End your visit by sampling a sugarplum. This program is for Kindergarten through second grade, as well as Brownie and Cub Scout troops. Class visits are scheduled December
11-23, 2008. House Tours. House tours are available for grades 2-12. The students will come away from the tour with a knowledge of the Granger family and their way of life from the early 1800s to 1930. Tours can be adapted to include your curriculum requirements. Past tours have featured architecture, local history, etiquette, immigration and genealogy. Contact the Education Director for more information, or to arrange a tour. Carriage Museum. A tour of the Carriage Museum can be included with the tour of the Mansion, or you may opt to have your class return at a later date to see our collection of horse-drawn vehicles. Our collection includes vehicles from pre-1800 to the 1930s. This program can also be tailored to fit your curriculum. Tea Parties. Bring your class or scout troop for an informative tour of the Homestead followed by a lesson in tea history and serving etiquette. Then join us for a tea party with tea, an alternative beverage, and sweets. NOTE: The fee for this program is $5.00 per person, with an 8 person minimum. http://www.grangerhomestead.org/events.htm
